Biography: Umberto Boccioni was born in 1882 in Reggio Calabria, Italy. He died in 1916, from a cavalry accident, when serving in the Italian Army in WWI. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts at Rome. He was one of the originators of the Futurism school of painting, along with Gino Severini and Luigi Russolo. In 1911, he went to Paris, where he met Pablo Picasso, with Cubism becoming a direct influence on Futurism. In 1912, Boccioni began to focus primarily on sculpture, for which he is today perhaps better known than for his paintings. Click any thumbnail to view a larger version or make a purchase.
