Pierre Bonnard, French Post-Impressionist and Les Nablis Painter: La Fenetre Ouverte, 1921 Biography: Pierre Bonnard was born in 1867 in Fontenay-aux-Roses, France. He died at the age of 80 in 1947 in La Cannet, on the French Riviera. Bonnard initially studied law, and even practiced briefly as a barrister, but gave it up to take up art, which he'd also studied on the side. He studied art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Academie Julian in Paris. Bonnard, like Degas, did not paint from life, but painted in his studio from drawings, notes, and sometimes photographs. Like Toulouse-Lautrec, he also designed posters for advertisements, revues, and exhibitions. In the 1890s, he met Toulouse-Lautrec and became involved with the Les Nabis ("The Prophets") group of artists, including Edouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, and Paul Ranson. In 1910, Bonnard began his artistic sorties to the south of France, eventually buying a villa near Cannes in 1925. Check out our Custom Framing options!
