Early Renaissance Art marks the emergence of secularism and humanism in art, as well as the increasing application of perspectivism, scientific anatomy, and oil paints in panel paintings, with decoration of palaces and public buildings with classical and mythological themes becoming increasingly important over "church art." Fra Angelico (1387-1455) is a transitional figure, still painting largely in the style and piety of the Gothic, but incorporating Renaissance elements. The first significant truely Early Renaissance painters are Antonio Pisanello (1395-1455), Paolo Uccello (1397-1475), and Masaccio (1401-1428). Other painters who followed after them included Fra Filippo Lippi (1406-1469), Piero della Francesca (1412-1492), Andrea Mantegna (1421-1497), Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516), Andrea del Verrocchio (1435-1488), Sandro Botticelli (1444-1510), Pietro Perugino (1446-1524), Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494), and Filippino Lippi (1457-1504). Verrocchio taught Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) and Ghirlandaio taught Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), forming a direct link to the High Renaissance in Italy. Check out our
