Biography: H.R. (Hans Ruedi) Giger was born in 1940 in Chur, Switzerland. He studied art at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. He began creating artworks using airbrush around 1970, a technique instrumental to the synthesis of biological and mechanical forms (or bio-mechanoid forms) which has characterized much of his work since. He came to widespread reknown for his work as a set designer for the movie Alien. Recently, Giger has produced sculpture and surrealistic (otherworld) environments.
