Biography: Juan Gris was born as Jose Victoriano Gonzales-Perez in 1887 in Madrid, Spain. He died in 1927 at the age of 40 in Paris, France. After studying mechanical drawing and painting in Madrid, he moved to Paris in 1906, where met the pioneers of the Cubism art movement, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. He was also close friends with Henri Matisse and Amedeo Modigliani. He suffered an attack of pleurisy in 1920 at the age of 33, which seriously impacted his health, eventually leading to his early death at the age of 40.
