Biography: Jasper Johns was born in 1930 in Augusta, Georgia, but grew up in Allendale, South Carolina. He studied briefly at the University of South Carolina, before moving to New York in 1948, where he studied art for a short time at the Parson's School of Design. He became friends with Robert Rauschenberg, which led to his being discovered by the gallery owner who was showing Rauschenberg's work. John's is described as both a Pop Artist and a "Neo-Dadist".
