Biography: August Macke was born in 1887 in Meschede, Germany. He died in 1914 while serving as a soldier, in the second month of WWI. He studied art at the Dusseldorf Art Academy. He was influenced by the Fauves and Robert Delaunay. He was one of the founding members of the Blue Rider (Blaue Reiter) group of painters, which also included Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Alexej Jawlensky, and Lyonel Feininger.
