R.C. (Rudolf Carl) Gorman was born in 1931 in Chinle, Arizona, and died in 2005. He grew up in a traditional Navaho hogan and herded sheep as a child. His father, Carl Gorman, was also a well-known Navaho artist. After serving in the Navy out of high school, R.C. studied art at Arizona University in Flagstaff, Mexico City College (where he came under the influence of the art of Diego Rivera), and San Francisco State University. In 1968 he moved to Taos, New Mexico, where he opened the Navajo Gallery, the first Native American-owned art gallery. In 1973 he was featured in the Masterworks of the American Indian exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The New York Times has called him "the Picasso of American art." [More...]

Marianne Millar was born in Southern California and studied art at the University of California at Davis. Family visits to Indian reservations and trading posts as a child inspired her to explore Native American and Southwest culture in her art. [More...]

Carol Grigg was born in 1942 in Portland, Oregon. She has drawn on her Cherokee Indian heritage in working in multiple media, including watercolor, pastels, oil, lithography, and sculpture, as well as creating music and poetry. [More...]
