Biography: Egon Schiele was born in 1890 in Tulin, Austria, on the Danube River. He died at the age of 28 in 1918. In 1906, he began studying art in Vienna at the School of Arts and Crafts, and then shortly afterwards at the Academy of Fine Arts. In Vienna, Gustav Klimt became a mentor for Schiele, introducing him to the other artists of the circle of the Seccession movement. In 1912, Schiele was arrested for seducing an underage girl and for exhibiting pornographic drawings, spending about three and a half weeks in prison. In 1918, Schiele exhibited fifty works as part of the 49th Secessionist Exhibition, for which he also designed a poster, only to fall victim at the peak of his career and creative productivity to the Spanish Flu epidemic that raged through Europe after World War I.
