Vintage German Poster Art Poster design in Germany was strongly influenced by French poster art. While opportunities for poster artists weren't as numerous or varied as in France or Italy, there are many examples of excellent poster design in Germany, starting with Ludwig Hohlwein. A number of other poster designers of German heritage, such as Adolfo Hohenstein and Franz Lenhart, are known for their work for the Ricordi printing house in Milan, Italy, which drew artists from across the continent. German poster designers began to develop their own graphic style, particularly in Berlin and Munich, influenced by the Art Nouveau, Vienna Seccession, de Stijl, German Expressionism, and Bauhaus art movements. A number of German poster designers also are noted for designing type fonts, including George Belwe and Lucian Bernhard.
