Biography: Kerne Erickson studied art at the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. With considerable experience as a graphic designer and commercial artist, he has become well-known for his series of retro travel and vacation posters designed in a vintage style, featuring Hawaii, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Cuba, and other tourist and vacation destinations, with a focus on historic airline travel and famous beaches. Unlike most other retro vintage poster designers, Erickson has the knack of making his designs look more authentic than the real thing. The fact of the matter, unlike in Europe, poster design in the in the United States in the 1920s through 1950s was not valued as an art form, but was viewed as simply advertising, with posters simply thrown away after use.
