Vintage Barnum & Bailey Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in a circus or entertainment theme. P.T. (Phineas Taylor) Barnum had a long history as a showman, starting from 1835. He was best known for showing General Tom Thumb, along with various other freaks and curiosities, at Barnum's American Museum in New York City. In 1871, at the age of 61, Barnum formed P. T. Barnum's Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome, largely a traveling show of exhibits from his "museum" in New York City, as well as various circus acts. In 1881, he joined with James Bailey (of the Cooper & Bailey Circus) to form what was later to be called the Barnum & Bailey Circus ("The Greatest Show on Earth"). Bailey was instrumental in acquiring Jumbo the Elephant from the London Zoo, which became the show's principal attraction. Barnum pioneered the first circus train in 1872 (Ringling Brothers didn't follow suit until 1889). In 1907, Ringling Brothers bought the Barnum & Bailey Circus, continuing to tour as a "combined show" called the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
