Vintage Chrysler Posters Vintage Chrysler Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in an automotive or nostalgic theme. Chrysler was formed in 1925 when Walter Chrysler re-organized the Maxwell Motor Company, which dated back to around 1904. Maxwell had been one of the top three American auto makers, along with Ford and Buick, selling 60,000 cars in 1914. The initial Chrysler models were largely rebranded Maxwell designs. In 1928, the company introduced the Plymouth and DeSoto models, to appeal to the low and medium price markets, and bought the Dodge Brothers company. Other "marquee" models introduced by Chrysler over its history included the Airflow (1935), New Yorker (1939), Imperial (1955), Plymouth Valiant (1960), and Plymouth Barracuda (1964). The Barracuda (or 'Cuda, for short), designed to compete in the same market as the Ford Mustang, has since become a cult favorite among car restorers. In 1987, Chrysler bought the #4 American auto maker, American Motors Corporation (AMC), which had been formed in 1952 from the merger of Nash and Hudson, along with the acquisition of Jeep in 1970, continuing as the Jeep-Eagle division of Chrysler. The Eagle brand was phased out in 1998, but Jeep produced a best-seller, the 4-wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee, to compete with the Ford Explorer in the SUV market in 1993. Chrysler's financial history has been shakey, with federal bailouts required to keep it afloat in 1980 and 2009.
