Vintage Cunard Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in a maritime or travel theme.
In 1840, Samuel Cunard formed the British and North American Royal Mail Steam-Packet Company, after being awarded the British transatlantic mail contract, with four paddle-wheel steamers carrying mail and passengers on the Liverpool-Halifax-Boston route. Challenged by rivals, including the White Star Line, he changed the name of the company to the Cunard Steamship Company, to improve public recognition. In 1934, the British government provided loans to Cunard to finish construction of the HMS Queen Mary and HMS Elizabeth on condition that Cunard merge with the ailing White Star Line. The White Star Line continued to operate as a separate entity. The two Queens, operating as troopships, were estimated by Winston Churchill to have shortened WWII by at least a year.
