Chemins de Fer de l'Est (Eastern Railways) Vintage Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in a railway, travel, or French theme. The company was formed in 1855 by the merger the Compagnie de Paris a Strasbourg and the Chemin de Fer de Montereau a Troyes, followed by the addition of the Compagnie de Strasbourg a Bale in 1863 and the Ardennes railway network in 1863. Destinations served included Amiens, Chaumont, Gothard, Bale, Bern, Milan, and Venice, in France, Switzerland, and Italy. In 1871, following defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, the company ceded the railways in Alsace-Lorraine, which had been part of the Chemins de Fer de l'Est, and all of its foreign possessions to the
German Empire. In 1938, the Chemins de Fer de l'Est was absorbed into the national state railway, the SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais) along with the other major French railways.
