State (Etat) Railways Vintage Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in a railway, travel, or French theme. The Chemins de Fer de l'Etat nationalized a number of failing railways between the Loire and Garonne Rivers in 1878, and then absorbed the West (Ouest) Railways in 1908 and parts of the Paris-Orleans Railway in in 1934. It was often referred to as the reseau de l'Etat (or "state system"). Locales that it served included Bordeaux, Brittany, Anjou, Normandy, Angouleme, Vendee, Mont St. Michel, as well as connecting to travel to Great Britain, the Island of Jersey, and London. It was absorbed into the national state railway system, the SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais) in 1938.
