Vintage Hamburg-America Line Posters are a great way to decorate your living space a maritime or travel theme. The Hamburg-America Line was established in Hamburg, Germany, in 1847, as the Hamburg-American Packet Company (Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfarhrt Aktien-Gesellschaft or HAPAG), sailing between Hamburg and New York, via Southampton. The company rapidly expanded, adding routes to the Eastern Seaboard, Canada, New Orleans, Mexico, South America, and the Far East. In 1930, Hamburg-America joined with the North German Lloyd company to form HAPAG-Lloyd Union, to jointly run passenger service in the Mediterranean, eventually merging, in 1971, as HAPAG-Lloyd AG. The Hamburg-America Line played a major role in carrying immigrants to the United States from Germany and other parts of northern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
