Vintage Renault Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in an automobile or nostalgic theme. Louis Renault began designing early automobiles in 1897, forming Societe Renault Freres with his brothers, Marcel and Fernand, in 1899. To gain publicity, Renault entered into city-to-city road races, with both Louis and Marcel as drivers. Marcel was killed during the 1903 Paris-Madrid race - while Renault remained in racing, Louis gave up driving. During WWI, the company manufactured ammunition, airplanes, and tanks. By the end of the war, they were the top private French manufacturer. During WWII, Louis Renault refused to manufacture tanks for the Germans, but ultimately agreed to build trucks for them. After the war, he was accused of collaboration and imprisoned, dying in 1944 while awaiting trial. In 1947, General de Gaulle nationalized the company. It was not re-privatized until 1996.
