Vintage Tea Posters are a great way to decorate your living space in a cuisine/beverage or healthy-living theme. Tea is native to southeast Asia, with the origin of drinking tea as a beverage lost in the mists of time. The earliest records of tea-drinking date back to the 10th century B.C. in China. Sometime around the 6th century B.C., tea drinking and cultivation spread to Korea and Japan. Marco Polo's writings do not mention tea, nor did he bring any back with him, which is best explained by the Mongols not being tea drinkers at the time. Tea was first brought back to Europe in the early 17th century by the Dutch and Portuguese, with its use then spreading to the rest of Europe. Tea came to England in 1660 when King Charles II married a Portuguese princess, Catherine of Braganza, who was a regular tea drinker. While tea is native to northeastern India, it was only with British colonialization in the early 19th century that large scale tea plantations were established in India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka), with its product shipped back to feed British and European demand.
