Biography: Roger Broders was born in 1883 in Paris, France, and died in 1953, also in Paris. Both of his parents were architects. His father's family was of Danish extraction (Broderson). Broders studied art at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. He was one of the most popular travel and tourism poster designers in the 1920s and 1930s, promoting resorts in the Riviera, south of France, the Alps, and other popular European vacation spots. Many of his poster designs were commissioned by the French Railway Company, the PLM (Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee), and other railroad companies carrying vacation travelers. While sharing many Art Deco sensibilities, Broder's bright flat colors and simplified compositions anticipate more modern graphic styles.
