GEDCOM folder

Include any subfolders here created by Sparrowhawk (or other Macintosh GEDCOM-to-HTML conversion utility). Make sure you give each one a unique name and then link to the folder's surnames.html file from your main page.

Getting and Using Sparrowhawk:

To add HTML formatted GEDCOMs to your web site, do the following:

1. Use your genealogy program, such as Family Tree Maker or My Brother's Keeper, to export a GEDCOM file for one of your family lines.

2. Download Sparrowhawk at http://www.bradandkathy.com/genealogy/sparrowhawk.html and install it.

3. Use Sparrowhawk to convert your GEDCOM into HTML format. You may need to experiment a bit to get exactly the results you want. To check your results, just use your browser to pull up surnames.html from GEDCOM's HTML folder.

4. When satisfied with your HTML GEDCOM, create a folder as a subfolder within the GEDCOM folder that is included with this template. Give it a name to match the family line for which the HTML GEDCOM has been created (for instance, My Pages:gedcom:Smith, if the main family line is for the Smith family). Create a unique folder for each family line for which you want to create an HTML GEDCOM.

5. Copy all of the HTML GEDCOM folders and files to the folder you created in Step 4.

6. Use Fetch (or any FTP program) to transfer all files and folders to your server.
