Biography: Salvador Dali was born in 1904 in Figueres, in Catalonia and died in 1989 in Figueres, Spain, at age 84. He studied drawing as a youth, then starting in 1922 attended the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he met the poet Federico Garcia Lorca and the filmmaker Luis Bunuel. Initially influenced by Cubism and Dadaism, Dali refused to take his final exams at San Fernando in 1926, claiming no one there was competent to examine him. In 1926, he was introduced to Pablo Picasso by fellow Spaniard Joan Miro. Dali began painting in a surrealistic style starting in 1928-29, painting his Surrealist masterpiece, Persistence of Memory, in 1931. Check out our
