Biography: Andy Warhol was born as Andrew Warhola in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvannia. He died in 1987 in New York City at the age of 58, from a sudden heart attack following gall bladder surgery. Warhol studied commercial art at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, then moved to New York City in 1949, where he began a successful career as an illustrator. In the 1960s, Warhol began producing the works that defined the Pop Art movement, including paintings of iconic popular products and celebrities, such as Campbell's Soup cans, Coca Cola, Mickey Mouse, Marilyn Monroe, and other iconic popular products and celebrities. In 1968, Warhol was shot at his studio, the Factory, by Valerie Solanas, who had founded S.C.U.M. (Society for Cutting Up Men). Warhol recovered, but suffered from after-effects for the rest of his life. Other artists participating in the Pop Art movement included Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, and Robert Rauschenberg.
